Jos Buivenga’s fonts in the wild

I am a huge fan of the excellent, high-quality fonts that Jos Buivenga produces, as donationware. I use them commonly for many of my tasks, and I consider Fontin to be one of the greatest fonts created in the last decade.

Imagine my surprise when I was reading SPIN Magazine and flipped a page to see a full-page advertisement featuring one of his fonts, Diavlo, in display size as well as included as part of the advertiser’s mark. Congratulations, Jos! Your work has been featured in one of the top music magazines in the US (after Rolling Stone)—because it’s just that good.

For the rest of you looking for free fonts with class (not something you’d find at the usual free-fontware sites), head on over to Jos’s foundry, exljbris, to pick up the finest specimens of fonts filled with ligatures (common and not as much–like ffif ), extensive kerning, lining and old-style figures, and so much more. And, hey, send a few euros his way too! If these fonts had the name “Adobe”, “Monotype”, “ITC”, or “Bitstream” on them (and they easily could), you’d be paying hundreds for each one.

They’re worth as much as the big foundry fonts’ pricetags, but Jos asks only for donations.  ⌘
